How to Identify Early Buck Knife 110 Blade Markings

Hoyt Buck, the creator of the Buck knife, made his first knife in 1902. He was on a quest to make tempered steel that would stay sharp longer. He made each knife by hand using old file blades. In 1947, he opened a shop with his son, Al Buck, in San Diego, California. In 1964, Al created the first folding knife -- Model 110. This is now the most sought after knife and is considered quite the collectible.

Instructions

    • 1

Examine the blade for the words BUCK with U.S.A. underneath it. This will determine if the knife is an authentic Buck knife.

    • 2

Check to see if there is a model number between BUCK and U.S.A. If not, then the blade was made before 1973.

    • 3

Look closely at the model number if it appears on the blade. If the number has one dot before and after it, the knife was made between 1974 and 1980. A number with one dot before and two dots after means the knife was made in 1980. If the model number has two dots before and two dots after it, the knife was made between 1981 and 1986.
