The Crabtree Emerald Mine
The Crabtree Emerald Mine is one of only two emerald mines that are open to the public in the United States. as of 2011. The mine is in North Carolina and has been in operation since 1894. This mine has had some amazing finds over the years, including a 200-carat emerald discovered in 1976, which was cut into a 40-carat stone. and an 83-carat emerald was discovered In 1985.
The owners of the Crabtree Emerald Mine allow visitors to come for $15 a day to see what they can find. Other gems that are frequently found in the mine include clack tourmaline and garnet.
Emerald Hollow Mine
The Emerald Hollow mine, situated in the foothills of the Brushy Mountains in North Carolina, is open to the public for prospecting. The mine is home to more than 63 types of gemstones and minerals, including emerald, aquamarine, sapphire, garnet, topaz, amethyst and tourmaline. The mine also boasts an abundance of quartz crystals. The mine is open 362 days a year and is close to many RV parks with complete hookups. A complete lapidary shop is on-site that can turn all rough gems into cut stones and jewelry.
Emerald Mines of Kianjavato
The emerald mines of Kianjavato are located in the eastern rain forests of Madagascar near the coastal city of Mananjary and just north of the small town of Irondro. Emeralds in the mines there are estimated to be about 3 billion years old and are composed of pegmatite rock.
Urals Mining Company
The Urals Mining Co. was founded in 2005 and operates the only emerald mine in Russia. The company has the rights for the development of the Sverdlovsk emerald deposit, which is outside the town of Malyshevo. This private company is also the first to be seen in the Russian market for emeralds.
