Projectile and Dart Points---McFaddin Beach
Numerous fossils and artifacts have been found along the coastline of McFaddin Beach located in Jefferson County, Texas; archaeological studies starting in the 1970's have already been conducted to investigate the source of these findings. The McFaddin Beach artifacts include different types of projectile and dart points, the most popular of which are the Clovis points that archaeologists traced back to the Paleoindian period of more than 10,000 years ago.
Cannon and Other Artifacts---Treasure Coast
The Treasure Coast in Florida runs along the Atlantic coastline in the south-central part of the state. It was named after ship-wrecks that occurred near its coastline in 1622 and 1715, involving Spanish treasure galleons. Discovery-missions to extract the treasures from these wrecks have been occurring since the 1950s when a man named Kip Wagner found some coins and a cannon along the beach; they were verified to be among the treasures sank during the 1715 wreck. These beach findings led to several successful treasure hunting expeditions headed by Mel Fisher.
More than 50 years after the first findings of Kip Wagner, gold and silver coins, precious jewelries, and old artifacts continue to be discovered along the beaches of Treasure Coast.
Cannons---Oregon Coast
Cannons believed to have come from the navy schooner USS Shark, which was wrecked along the Columbia River in 1846, have been discovered along various areas of the Oregon coast. The first of these cannons was recovered in 1898 in a community that was later named Cannon Beach. Other cannons have been discovered since then, including a recent finding in 2008.
Spearheads and Pots---Beach Boulevard
Ancient Indian artifacts were uncovered by workers repairing a major bridge in Beach Boulevard of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. The bridge was destroyed in 2005 during Hurricane Katrina and when it was being rebuilt a year later, spearheads and pots that are believed to be about 2,000 years old were unearthed. Archaeologists continue to examine the artifacts, as well as what is believed to be an Indian burial site also found around the bridge.
