How to Secure Magazines in a Three-Ring Binder

Magazines clutter the house if you keep them around, but the moment you throw one out you need the article from last year's issue about how to plant the perfect sunflower. Maybe you didn't throw it out and it's somewhere in the pile of growing literature. Solve these problems by storing magazines in a three-ring binder. Binders create a clean space in which to store magazines, while allowing you to organize them topically or chronologically for quick article retrieval.

Things You'll Need

  • Magazine holder
  • Three-hole punch

Instructions

  1. Magazine Holder

    • 1

Open the magazine to the middle page, where you see the crease that splits the magazine exactly in half. Slide the right side of the magazine through the magazine holder so that it lines up with the spine. The magazine slips through the thin space between the sides and the part that connects to the three-ring binder should face away from the back of the spine.

    • 2

Close the magazine. It shuts normally and completely. Open the rings of the binder by grasping them and pulling apart. Slip the three holes of the magazine holder over the three rings of the three-ring binder.

    • 3

Snap the three-ring binder closed by pushing the rings together. Flip through the magazine page-by-page to ensure you've lined up the magazine holder correctly. Adjust for any pages that won't open without snagging.

    Three-Hole Punch

    • 4

Position the spine of the magazine in a three-hole punch by pushing it all the way back into the puncher. Line the magazine up with the hole punches according to your device's specifications. This probably means lining the magazine up with the top or bottom of the punch to ensure the holes are created correctly.

    • 5

Push down on the handle of the hole punch. You may need to push down, release pressure and then push down again several times if the magazine is thick. This allows the punch to cut the holes a few pages at a time.

    • 6

Press a pen or pencil through all of the holes to clear out any hanging pieces. Open the three-ring binder by grasping the rings and pulling them apart. Place the magazine in the three-ring binder so that all the pages are either on the left side rings or right side rings. Snap the binder closed by pushing the rings toward each other.
