How to Fill Up Zippo Lighters

The first Zippo lighters were created in 1932. Known for their ability to stay lit even in windy conditions, they have been very popular among smokers and cigar enthusiasts. All models of Zippo lighters are made with a sturdy metal case with a flip-top style lid. One of the biggest advantages of having a Zippo lighter is the ability to refill it, which is a simple process.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the lid of the Zippo lighter. Gently squeeze the windscreen around the wick of the lighter. Pull upward to remove the inner body from the outer case.

    • 2

Turn the inner body of the lighter upside down. The cotton pad is now visible, and has the words "Lift to fuel" printed on it.

    • 3

Lift up one end of the cotton pad. Underneath the pad is soft cotton filling.

    • 4

Open the lighter fluid bottle and squeeze the fluid into the soft cotton filling. Saturate the cotton but do not overfill. Slowly add the fluid a little at a time, allowing the cotton to soak it up.

    • 5

Lower the cotton pad and replace the inner body in the outer case.

    • 6

Wait a few minutes before igniting the lighter to allow excess fluid to dry. Wash your hands to remove fluid remnants that might ignite.
