How to Remove a Sticker From the Inside of a Book

Peeling a sticker from the inside of a book presents a challenge. If the sticker is on a printed page, it must be removed without ripping the paper and so the print is intact. If the sticker is on the inside of the cover, removal is less of a problem. In most circumstances, apply heat to remove the sticker. However, this is not practical with thin book page paper, so a different technique is required.

Things You'll Need

  • Scalpel or sharp razor
  • Tweezers
  • Hair dryer (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Prop the book open to the page where the sticker is attached. Use the flat end of one side of the tweezers to pry up one corner of the sticker. Start at a corner as it provides the most purchase as the sticker becomes free of the page.

    • 2

Peel up slowly. Go as slow as needed to prevent rips and print peeling off. If any portion of the paper begins to come up with the sticker, use the scalpel or razor to make precise and tiny cuts to stop the tear. Use the tweezers to continue pulling up on the sticker until it is fully removed from the page.

    • 3

Apply slight heat from a hair dryer if the sticker glue is old or extremely tacky on the printed page. Add just enough heat to make it more pliable and continue to peel up with the tweezers.

    • 4

Apply heat to the sticker if it is on the inside cover of the book. Peel at the corner with the tweezers and continue to add heat, allowing the glue to melt. The inside surface of the book is harder than the pages, allowing heat to activate the glue with no damage to the book.
