Girl and Boy Figurines
Hummel's collection of youth-inspired porcelain figurines include a little girl in a red bonnet sitting in a pink-flowered apple tree. The "Apple Tree Girl" figure has evolved over the years from many sizes and models and has also been called "Spring" or "Springtime." This figurine's counterpart, "Apple Tree Boy," depicts a young boy with a green hat sitting in an apple tree with a mischievous grin on his face with a bluebird on a branch looking up at him. Like "Apple Tree Girl," "Apple Tree Boy was created in 1940 and has had different sizes and variations and has also been called "Autumn."
The Elderly
Hummel created a line of figurines featuring the elderly called "The Mamas and the Papas." The figurines include "Old Man Walking to the Market," "Old Woman Walking to the Market," "Old Woman Knitting" and "Old Man Reading Newspaper." Hummel's elderly porcelain statues depict adult characters with arched backs and weather worn faces.
Seasonal Accessories
Hummel created many fall-inspired pieces, including a whimsical, brown tree with golden apples and a scarecrow wearing a blue coat and a hat with a yellow feather. Her wintertime creations include figurines of a blue-scarfed snowman holding a broomstick and a pine tree made to look like it is bending to the left under the heavy weight of snow. For the spring and summer, Hummel's collections include a tiny brown wagon with blue and yellow flowers and a brown bench engraved with a red heart.
Bells
Hummel's imaginative portrayal of young girls and boys is also found painted on bells. These small, porcelain creations include 1979's "Farewell," which depicts a cherub-faced little girl sitting in the green grass waving her red handkerchief. In the 1984 bell "Mountaineer," a small boy in shorts and a green jacket sits on a brown mountain holding a walking stick.
