Identify the nature of your giraffe collection. It might be made up of statues and figurines, plush toys, photos and ornaments, or maybe there is no specific criteria aside from the fact that every item is giraffe-themed. Make a detailed inventory of every item in the collection, and number them for ease of reference.
Organize the collection by type. For an eclectic collection, this is easy -- separate figurines and china into one batch, soft toys into another, books into a third and so forth. For more specific collections, such as a giraffe collection made up entirely of china ornaments, divide pieces by condition (intact, chipped or broken) and any other distinguishing characteristics, such as a manufacturer's name on the bottom.
Consider which items might be more valuable individually and which are more important kept together as a batch. Individual giraffe figurines by producers like Waterford or Royal Doulton will do well if sold separately. A collection of soft toy giraffes or an assortment of books on giraffes, for example, will raise more money kept together.
Research the value of individual items. There are several sites that might be able to help you gauge how much each piece or collection of pieces is worth. A good place to start with figurines and antiques is the website I Antique Online. (See link in Resources.)
Decide what you want to do with your collection. If you're interested in selling items, you can elect to do so in a number of ways. Some high-priced items can be sold profitably by online auction, on a site like eBay. Other items, especially collections of items, are best sold through a local auction house. For low-value items, selling them via Craigslist.com might be the best option.
