J.A. Bauer Pottery Company began making stoneware during the late 1880s in Louisville, Kentucky. The company soon expanded into Los Angeles, California, making everything from flower pots to complete dish sets. The company closed its doors in 1962. The original Bauer design still thrives today, and every piece is considered a collector's item. A different ceramic company manufactures products -- based on the original Bauer designs -- under the name "Bauer 2000."
