Beach Digging Tools

During warm weather months, people all over the world come to the beach to swim, surf and sunbath. However, many come to find desirable objects including shells, coins and even hidden treasure. Aside from a metal detector, these investigators need to arm themselves with the proper tools to help them in their search for something valuable.
  1. Camping Shovel

    • Whether looking for buried treasure in the sand or just simply digging a small hole on the beach, a camping shovel is an important tool to have. The shovels will enable a digger to create a smaller hole, but also allow for a hole that is 12 inches or bigger. There are many varieties to camping shovels when it comes to size, durability and weight. However, the larger and heavier the shovel, the more difficult it is to transport. Folding camping shovels can be clipped to a belt or easily stored in a bag and still be as efficient.

    Sand Scoop

    • Once the initial hole is dug in the sand, a sand scoop is a great way to dig up sand for sifting. The tool disperses the sand through a screen mesh, catching any larger materials left behind. The main difference between sand scoops is the length of the handle. A shorter handle is meant to be used just on the shores of a beach where a longer handle can allow for scooping in shallow water. If digging near an ocean, a stainless steal sand scoop won't rust from the salt water though it may cost a bit more.

    Flashlight or Headlamp

    • If the dig becomes successful it may carry on into the evening as the sun goes down. A flashlight or headlamp can allow the digging to continue and not force the digger to abandon his or her spot. A smaller flashlight that clips to the rim of a cap or the collar of a shirt is an inexpensive option. Headlamps may be a better choice as they last a long time and many of them are waterproof.

    Hunting Pouch

    • Once all of the beach digging tools are collected a hunting pouch can keep everything together and accessible. A hunting pouch is typically used by hunters but can serve many purposes and can be found at most sporting goods stores. When picking out a pouch, keep a pocket open for items that may be unearthed from the dig.
