Gather your dolls into one location. Make sure that you choose an area that is free from dirt and debris. Lay your dolls out and begin to sort them into groups. This will allow you to re-familiarize yourself with everything that is in your current collection. If you have a particularly large number of dolls, you may want to use a room that does not receive much traffic.
Use a notepad to make a detailed list of each doll in your collection. Record information that is most important to you, such as when and where you got the doll, favorite memories involving the doll, or specific accessories that go with the doll. Jot down a specific dollar amount beside the name of any doll that has a known value.
Use a digital camera to snap pictures of each doll in your doll collection. You decide whether you want to take close-up shots that show only the faces, or take photos of the dolls' full bodies. You can later print the pictures and place them into albums, as well as share them online.
Purchase a doll collectors' software program to help you organize and keep up an inventory of your dolls. Use pre-defined fields to enter information, as well as customize your own fields. Many of these programs will automatically alphabetize the doll information that you enter and allow you to print out detailed lists for insurance purposes. Track dolls that you buy and sell, using software.
Place your dolls into display cabinets or on decorative shelves. Carefully wrap dolls in gift-quality tissue paper and place them into airtight plastic containers, if you need to store them away in a closet or a basement.
