Tomix Track Vs. Atlas Track

Both Tomix Track and Atlas Track are brand name model train tracks that have been around for decades, as of 2010. The two brands are popular among train collectors for their detailed sets and are both leading brands in the industry.
  1. Tomix Track

    • The Tomix Track parent company, originally called Tomy was created in Japan in 1924. However Tomy didn't introduce the Tomix brand until 1976. The company claims that no other model trains can make manual turnouts with no attached wires and make 15 degree crossings. The tracks are sold both individually and as sets. Each track is made with metal rails and durable plastic roadbeds.

    Atlas Track

    • Atlas Model Railroad Company has been making train tracks since the 1950's. The company is also sometimes referred to as Atlas Track. The company claims to be the leader of model railroad track manufacturing worldwide. Like Tomix, Atlas sells both individual tracks and sets. The company has made more than 40 sets. All are produced using molded plastic and nickel silver rail.

    Considerations

    • While Atlas products are produced for use worldwide and sold in stores across the United States, Tomix track products are only produced for use in Japan. This is because Tomix tracks are made with 100 volts of power, whereas the United States uses 120 volts of power. If you own a Tomix track and live in the United States, the company advises you use a converter so you don't destroy the outlet.
