Things You'll Need
Instructions
Locate a specimen. Cockroaches can generally be found in structures that are warm and have a constantly supply of food, such as homes and businesses.
Place the cockroach into a glass jar, and secure the lid. Pick up the cockroach with a insect net or while wearing a pair of rubber gloves.
Set the jar into a freezer, which will help preserve the specimen until it is ready to be placed on to the Styrofoam sheet. The cockroach can be kept in the freezer for up to three days until it is destroyed and a new example must be sought.
Remove the glass jar from the freezer when you are ready to pin the cockroach. Allow the roach to thaw for 15 to 20 minutes before removing it from the jar.
Set the cockroach on its back on the Styrofoam sheet. Using an etymology pin, skewer the insect through its thorax directly above the roach's second pair of legs. Approximately one-third of the length of the pin should remain exposed above the specimen.
Glue or pin a small paper label under the specimen. The information on the label should include the insect's name, its order and any other information about the cockroach, such as the number of species or the fact that the appearance of the cockroach has not changed for approximately 320 million years.
Place the Styrofoam sheet into a shoe or wooden display box.
