How to Preserve Labels

Collecting and preserving labels from glass bottles, such as wine, allows you to keep a visual record of various vintages. You can also preserve a label if you need to use it as a reference, to see the ingredients or if you want to purchase additional bottles. However, you will need to determine what method to use to successfully remove the label from the bottle.

Things You'll Need

  • Kitchen pot
  • Hot pad
  • Razor blade
  • Blow dryer

Instructions

  1. Using Water

    • 1

Fill the wine bottle with warm tap water. Place the bottle in a kitchen pot and then fill the pot up to the level of the label.

    • 2

Set the pot on the stove top and set the burner to low heat. Let the water heat slowly between 15 and 20 minutes. The adhesive on the label will begin to come loose.

    • 3

Turn off the heat and lift out the bottle using a hot pad.

    • 4

Peel one corner of the label, if it is still attached, until it comes off the bottle. Pull the label slowly to avoid any ripping or tearing.

    Blow Dryer

    • 5

Plug the blow dryer into a wall outlet.

    • 6

Set the heat to high and point the end of the blow dryer about 3 to 4 inches from the label.

    • 7

Press the trigger on the blow dryer and apply heat to the label for between 4 and 6 minutes. The heat will make the adhesive pliable.

    • 8

Turn off the blow dryer and peel at one corner of the label. Pull slowly until the label comes off of the bottle.
