What Are the Rare Monopoly Pieces?

McDonald's and Hasbro, the makers of Monopoly, started a joint promotion in 1987 that has the fast food company giving out game pieces based on the timeless board game. The pieces translate to prizes in the annual game. The biggest prizes are tied to nine rare property pieces.
  1. Mediterranean Avenue

    • Mediterranean Avenue, the cheapest property in Monopoly, also has the lowest value of the rare pieces. As of 2010, it is worth $50.

    Low End Avenues

    • Vermont Avenue is worth $100, Virginia Avenue is worth a $200 SpaWish gift certificate and Tennessee Avenue is worth $1,000.

    High End Avenues

    • As of 2010, Kentucky Avenue can be exchanged for a Beaches Resorts vacation, Ventor is worth $25,000 and Pennsylvania Avenue is worth $50,000.

    Short Line

    • Short Line is the only railroad or utility among the rare pieces. As of 2010, it is redeemable for an EA Sports Trip.

    Boardwalk

    • Just as Boardwalk is the most valuable property in Monopoly, every year it represents the grand prize in McDonald's Monopoly game. It is worth a $1 million annuity.

    Golden Avenue

    • Of all the pieces available in the McDonald's Monopoly game, only Golden Avenue did not correspond to an actual property in Monopoly. Golden Avenue was worth $100,000 in 2008. It was not part of the 2009 or 2010 promotions.
