How to Mount a Poster That Has Been Folded

Framing your favorite poster can help to protect it from dust or humidity, but if your poster was folded or rolled before you were able to frame it, it's probably creased. Before you frame and mount your poster, you'll want to remove the creases so that they aren't visible inside of the frame. The process takes time, but it's essential to preserve the poster from discoloration or tears.

Instructions

    • 1

Unfold the poster and fold it carefully in the opposite direction of which it was folded. Leave the poster folded for a few hours.

    • 2

Unfold the poster and lay it on a flat surface such as a table or counter top.

    • 3

Lay a few heavy objects over the poster such as a few books. Be sure to place a book on each corner and one in the center. Leave the poster for a day or two with the books on top of it.

    • 4

Hang the poster in a humid room, such as a bathroom, to remove severe creases. Use clothespins to hold up the poster and leave the poster hanging for a day or two. Do not hang the poster where water may come in contact with it as you do not want to damage the poster.

Purchase a poster frame that is appropriate to the size of your poster. If the frame is too big or too small it may crease the poster.

    • 6

Lay the frame down and place the poster down inside of the frame and make sure that it fits securely. You may secure the poster to the frame by using tape.
