How to Repair a Polar Running Watch

Polar designs watches that do more than tell time. Polar designs timepieces to help the sports enthusiast get the most out of his workout or training. Coupled with a heart monitor, these watches give biometric data to the wearer in addition to keeping time. Some models will display heart rate, time and even the runner's stride count to give the athlete a complete picture of training. Be sure to change the wear link sensor battery whenever the watch battery is low.

Instructions

  1. Replacing a Broken Watch Band

    • 1

Locate the watch band brackets on either side of the watch. Holding the watch band in place are the spring bars. These tiny spring-loaded bars are seated in lugs on either side of the watch band bracket.

    • 2

Insert the spring bar tool into the side of the watch band bracket. The spring bar tool is a thin piece of metal that can usually be purchased at a craft or jewelry supply shop.

    • 3

Press the spring bar tool toward the center of the watch band bracket. This will depress the spring bar and the watch band will come out of the watch band bracket.

    • 4

Put the spring bar into the new watch band. Some watch bands will already have a spring bar installed at the time of purchase.

    • 5

Carefully put one end of the spring bar into the lug on the side of the watch band bracket. Slide the other end of the spring bar at an angle behind the second lug on the other side. Gently pull the watch band forward until the spring bar pops into the second lug.

Replacing the Battery in the Watch

    • 6

Lay the soft cloth on a firm work surface. Place the watch face down on the cloth.

    • 7

Look carefully at the seam between the watch case and the back. There will be a notch on one portion of the seam.

    • 8

Place the spring bar tool into the notch in the seam. Pry the back of the watch away from the case.

    • 9

Remove the battery. Take the battery to a jewelry or battery store to be tested. Buy a replacement if necessary.

    • 10

Replace the battery in the watch.

    • 11

Place the back on the watch case. Put a finger on either side of the back. Gently press the back until it clicks into place.

    Replacing the Sensor Link Battery

    • 12

Lie the sensor link face down on the work surface.

    • 13

Insert a coin into the slot on the battery case. Rotate the coin counterclockwise until the battery case opens.

    • 14

Remove the old battery. Take the battery to a jewelry or battery store to be tested. Purchase a replacement.

    • 15

Place the battery back in the compartment. Be sure the gasket around the battery case is in place to protect the battery from moisture.

    • 16

Place the battery cover in its place. Insert a coin in the slot and rotate the coin clockwise until battery back is sealed.
