Replacing a Broken Watch band
Locate the watch band brackets on either side of the watch case. A spring bar hold the watch band in the bracket. This tiny spring loaded bar fits into two tiny lugs, one on either side of the bracket.
Insert the spring bar tool into the side of the watch band bracket. The spring bar tool is a thin piece of metal and can usually be found in either a craft or jewelry supply store. A small spatula or a thin screwdriver will also work.
Press the spring bar tool toward the center of the bracket. The spring bar will loosen and pop out of the bracket.
Slide the spring bar into the slot of the new watch ban. Some new watch bands will have a spring bar already installed.
Place one end of the spring bar into the lug on one side of the bracket. Slide the other end of the spring bar behind the second lug on the other side. Gently pull the watch band until the spring bar slips into the lug.
Replacing a Low or Dead Battery
Look at the second hand of the watch. Under normal circumstances, the second hand sweeps one second at at time. But, when the battery begins to lose power, the second hand of Hamilton watches will jump at four second intervals.
Spread the soft cloth on a firm work surface. Lay the watch face down on the cloth.
Look carefully at the seam between the watch case and the back of the watch. There will be a small notch on one portion of the seam.
Insert the spring bar tool into the notch and pry the back of the watch from the watch case.
Remove the battery. Take the battery to a jewelry or battery store. Have the battery tested and purchase an identical battery.
Place the new battery in the watch. Center the watch back on the case. Place a finger on either side of the watch back and press down until the back clicks into place.
Re-Calibrating the Altimeter
Go to a place with clearly marked altitude. This may be a marked place on a hiking trail, or the information may be available from a contour map.
Press the activation button once. A beep will alert you that you are in the touch mode.
Touch the Altimeter symbol on the crystal of the watch. A number will appear in the digital display.
Press the plus or minus symbols on the watch until the digital display matches the correct measurement above sea level.
Press the activation button again. A beep will tell you that the touch mode is closed.
