Are Disney Pins Made of Gold?

Collect and trade your favorite Disney characters with pins and sets from the Disney theme parks. Disney pins are not actually made of gold, but are metal with a golden finish. Enamel cloisonné adds color and detail.
  1. Collecting

    • Surprise your little one with a Disney vacation and her first collector's pin.

"Getting started in Disney pin collecting is as simple as procuring a pin you like," according to Walt Disney World. The biggest retailer of pins and sets is Disney's Pin Traders, in Downtown Disney Marketplace. Start off with a pin or two and grow your collection.

    Trading

    • Make friends trading pins at Disney.

Pin trading encourages interaction with other Disney fans and cast members. Display your collection on a lanyard around your neck. Trade with people you meet. According to the Disney's Pin Traders' rules, a maximum of 2 pins can be traded with each Disney cast member.

    Value

    • Disney character pins range in price from a few dollars to over a hundred or more for retired sets and collector series. The Disney Store sells a beginner's kit that includes a decorative lanyard and eight Mickey Mouse pins for $44.95, as of October 2010, as well as many other gift sets and individually priced pins.
