Replacing a Leather or Plastic Watch Band
Find the watch band brackets on either side of the watch case. A spring bar holds the watch band in place. This spring-loaded bar presses into lugs on either side of the watch band bracket.
Insert the spring bar tool into the side of the watch band bracket. The spring bar tool is a thin piece of metal and can usually be purchased from a craft or jewelry supply store. If one cannot be found, a spatula or thin screwdriver will also work.
Press the spring bar tool toward the center of the watch band bracket. This will depress the spring bar, and the watch band will pop out of the watch band bracket.
Place the spring bar into the new watch band. Some watch bands come pre-assembled with the spring bar already inserted.
Place the end of the spring bar into a lug on one side to the watch band bracket. Slide the other end of the spring bar behind the second lug. Carefully pull the watch band forward until the spring bar slips into the lug
Shortening a Metal Band
Hold the watch tightly around the wrist and estimate the number of links to be removed.
Find the removable links in the band. These links will look much like the others, but they have tiny screws or pins on the sides. They will be close to the latch.
Unscrew the little screws and place the screws on the sticky side of the tape to prevent the screws from rolling away. If the watch band has pins, look at both sides of the pin. One side will be larger than the other. use the jewelers screw driver to press the pin from the smaller side. Pull the pin completely free with the tweezers.
Remove links on both sides of the watch band to keep the band even.
Attach the watch band latch to the remaining links. Replace the screws that hold the links together. If a pin is used, line up the link and place the pin in the hole starting at the widest side. Press until the pin is flush with the side of the watch band.
