Measure the size of your horse, which determines its category. Breyer uses a different mold size for each type of horse. For example, the Traditional horses are typically 12 inches long and 9 inches high, while the Classic horses are 9 inches long and 6 inches high. Compare your measurements to those listed on the website, Identify Your Breyer.
Compare the shape and style of your horse to the horses listed on Identify Your Breyer. This site lists each type of category and images for the horses found in those categories. Locate the mold used for your horse by finding one that matches yours in terms of build and action, such as trotting or standing.
Find the name of the horse or the model number. Once you determine the mold used to create your horse, look at the horses created with that mold. Compare the colors and features of your horse with the features of those made with that mold. The Identify Your Breyer site lists every horse made with a specific mold, including the year it was released and where it was sold.
Check the condition of the horse. The condition of the horse severely affects its value, especially if the paint is worn off or the horse shows signs of extreme wear. Damage such as broken legs, missing manes or broken ears also reduce the value.
Price your horse according to recent sales online at auction sites and in classified ads. Price guides for toys and collectible horse figures, such as "Breyer Molds &Models" by Nancy Atkinson Young are also helpful in determining price. Though the book dates to the late 1990s, it still contains information on identifying and pricing models.
