Things to Do With Empty Wine Bottles

For the wine drinker who enjoys a glass or two in the evening, or for someone who has just thrown a huge party, the wine bottles add up quickly. Throwing them away is boring and environmentally unfriendly. Wine bottles are wonderfully versatile and you can use them in many fun and interesting ways. They also come in many different colors and shapes, you can use the same idea more than once and it will still look different.
  1. Painted

    • After steaming the label off, hand paint wine bottles using glass paint to make beautiful home decor. Some ideas include brightly colored flowers or seasonal decorations such as ghosts for Halloween, or a snowflake design during the winter holidays. Fill them with potpourri to create a nice aroma.

    Vases

    • You can easily reuse the especially pretty bottles by filling them with water and flowers. Or, for a classy vintage look, add just one single flower. These look especially nice in the window. To dress them up, tie a ribbon around the neck or at the base.

    Candle Holders

    • Making a candle holder from a wine bottle requires little effort. Cheap colored taper candles work well. After thinning the candle's base to make it fit, it is best to melt the wax a bit so that it will stay in the bottle. Once in the bottle, the candle is ready to burn and the wax drips will create lovely patterns on the bottle.

    Earring Tree

    • This creative idea works best with a clear wine bottle. After removing the label, fill it with colorful aquarium stones, sand or other filler. Then wrap wire around it in a spiral fashion, covering the length of the bottle. Hang earrings along the wire, turning the wine bottle into something useful and pretty.

    Corks and Labels

    • You can put the corks and labels from wine bottles to good use, as well. A really nice idea for wine labels is to scrapbook them, using them as a background, or along with pictures of the night you drank the wine. Two great ideas for corks include making a homemade cork board or cutting and gluing them inside cabinet doors to stop them from slamming.
