Obtain Your First Pin
Disney pins are for sale in most souvenir stores at all Disney parks and resort stores carrying Disney merchandise. A variety of Disney characters and themes appear on the pins and may be purchased individually, in multipacks or in starter sets with four pins and a lanyard. Other methods for obtaining a first pin may include attending character meals for birthdays or other special events. Official Disney pins are metal and stamped with the copyrighted Disney logo on the back of the pin. Pins from company affiliates, such as ESPN or ABC, may also be traded. Non-Disney, non-metal or clasp-style pins may not be traded.
Trading With Cast Members
Disney employees, or "cast members," are required to trade their pins with Disney guests. To trade with a cast member, choose a pin of your own that the cast member is not already displaying on their lanyard and offer it for one of the employee's pins. Cast members who wear a green lanyard at Walt Disney World Resort may only trade their pins with children between the ages of 3 and 12. Guests may trade a total of two pins per cast member per day. If you want a closer look at at a pin, do not reach for the cast member's lanyard; rather, ask the cast member to move the pin toward you for a closer look.
Trading with Pin Traders
Two locations at Disney World in Florida offer trading tables for serious pin traders. At Disney's Pin Traders in Downtown Disney and Pin Central at Epcot, pin traders may claim one pin table to display their pin collections and accept offers of trade. These traders are not employees of Walt Disney World, but are guests who specialize in pin trading. One binder is allowed at each table and pins may only be traded for other pins, not for cash or any services.
