How to Fix Water Globes & Snow Globes

Prepare a work surface. Lay old towels on a table or counter.

Cut out a piece of Styrofoam, leaving a hole in the middle large enough to securely hold the snow globe in place. Set it in the middle of your work area.

Sit the snow globe in the middle of the Styrofoam. Be sure the glass globe is face down toward the table and the bottom is facing toward the ceiling.

Remove the cork or plug from the base of the water or snow globe. The cork may have a glue seal, be forceful, but be careful not to knock the snow globe over.

Use an eyedropper or turkey baster to remove the water from the snow globe a little at a time. Do not remove any water until the snow and glitter has settled to the bottom of the globe. If the globe you are working on doesn't have any snow or glitter, just remove the water, and dump into a sink. When the old water is removed, most of the bacteria and dust, comes out as well.

Fill a cup with half alcohol and half water and place the mixture into the snow globe. The alcohol will keep bacteria, such as algae, from growing inside the globe.

Place the cork or plug back into the base of the snow globe and glue back in place, if there was a glue seal previously holding it in place. Allow the cork to dry and set the snow globe on a coffee table or bookshelf.
