How to Sell Cartier Watches

There are several ways to sell Cartier watches. However, unless you own a retail jewelry store and have a proven track record of selling quality timepieces, the likelihood of selling new Cartiers is remote. Like all luxury watchmakers, Cartier is selective in which retail outlets it allows to sell its watches. Selling vintage, pre-owned and new old stock (NOS) is a good alternative. Developing relationships with retailers and wholesalers moving old Cartier inventory to accommodate new models can be profitable.

  Research the luxury watch field. Visit as many brick-and-mortar jewelry stores as possible with an eye toward what kind of shops sell Cartiers and the details of their inventory. You will discover that Cartier models are relatively the same from shop to shop, and prices are similar.

  Obtain Cartier brochures, sales literature and catalogs. High-end stores offer free catalogs that provide details of each current Cartier models, including pricing and accessories.

  Visit the numerous online watch enthusiast forums that discuss Cartier watches. Visit seller̵7;s websites, luxury horology websites and online auction houses. Note the age, condition, model and final pricing of each Cartier.

  Research the horology field in general to understand the watch industry and the kind of luxury watches competing against Cartier in the market. Your sales techniques will improve the better you understand the competition and the industry.

  Obtain a retail license through your local city or county. Establish relationship with distributors and wholesalers. Distributors and wholesales rarely keep old stock on their shelves after Cartier introduces its new model lines. Wholesalers will sell their old inventory at discounts up to 50 percent or sell it to independent dealers. These inventories are NOS watches, which are new, but never sold by the retailer. Remember, though, that the timepieces are NOS because nobody wanted to buy them. So price them at a reasonable discount.

  Hire a watchmaker on a contract basis to repair and service your Cartier inventory. Have the watchmaker service your vintage, pre-owned and NOS Cartiers before selling to the public.
