Instructions for Building a Wood Shot Glass Display

Collecting shot glasses can be an interesting and useful hobby, whether you are a lover of souvenir state park shot glasses or a connoisseur of Western movie memorabilia. Finding appropriate displays for shot glass collections can be difficult and an excellent solution for this problem can be building a custom display from wood. This display can be built by even beginning craftsman using basic materials and minimal carpentry tools. With a little design customization, the basic version can be adapted to fit any home or collection.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 pieces of 1/2-inch hardwood, 2 inches by 12 inches
  • 1/4-inch thick wood board, 12 inches by 4 inches

Instructions

    • 1

Place the two shelves on their edges, standing up lengthwise on your working surface. Set the thinner board on top of them so that they form a small table. This will be the design of your shotglass display. Mark with a pencil where you will be putting screws to attach the thin board to the shelves.

    • 2

Drill holes through the board and into the shelves, being careful not to split the surfaces of the shelves. Use a bit slightly smaller than the wood screws. Attach the board to the shelves using two wood screws per shelf.

    • 3

Drill two holes in the backboard, directly beneath the top shelf. Place the shelf on the wall and determine the desired position. Use a carpenter's level to ensure that the display is level. Once the display is in the correct place, mark the wall through the holes with a pencil.

    • 4

Drill holes in the wall, using the markings as a guide. Insert drywall anchors into the holes in the wall. Place the display on the wall and attach it firmly using the wood screws. For larger shelves, the screws will need to be attached to the wall studs, which can be found using a stud finder.
