Instructions
Scout the protected southern side of hills near elk feeding grounds in the early spring, identifying herd gathering areas. Look for likely moose antler hunting locations near lakes, streams and rivers. Identify open sagebrush-covered plains where deer herds gather in the spring mating season.
Obtain permission from private land owners before entering their property. Call the customer service center of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department at 307-777-4600 to verify that antler hunting is allowed on the public property where you wish to search.
Schedule your antler hunting expedition between May 1, when the antler hunting season opens, and Dec. 31, when the season closes. Elk, moose and deer shed their antlers in the late winter and early spring, so plan your antler search early during the open season to increase your chances of success.
Get an interstate game tag from the Game and Fish Department before transporting antlers out of Wyoming. Find the location of the nearest field office by phoning the department at 307-777-4600.
Pick up only antlers that have been shed by the animals naturally. Respect any wildlife that you encounter, keeping a safe distance away and allowing the animals to feed and congregate without human interference.
