Collection Display Ideas

Whatever you collect showcases your personality and individual style. Display your collection proudly in your house to share this insight with others. No matter how much space you have or what your interior design style is, you can find ideas to make your collectibles a part of your home's decor scheme.
  1. On the Wall

    • Create custom wall hangings to showcase your collection.

Building custom decorative shelving is always an option for displaying your collections. If it is made up of flatter items, such as stamps or old magazine advertisements, frame them for personal artwork. For bulkier items, such as figurines or statues, build custom shadowboxes with or without shelves. Another ideas is to just mount the collectibles on the wall, with decorative hooks or hidden hooks o the back to create the appearance of the objects floating on the wall.

    On and In Furniture

    • Shelves are not just for books.

Arranging your collectibles on tables, bookcases and other furniture is a way to add them into your interior design scheme. For example, put all of your figurines that are a certain color on one side of the couch on an end table and all of another color on the other side. Group the rest together on the entertainment center across from it. Build or buy a recessed coffee table to place smaller items in, such as stamps, photographs or magazines. If using surface space is not an option in your home, arrange things in drawers but leave them open. For example, stack all of your lace handkerchiefs in a smaller top dresser drawer and keep it pulled out to showcase them.

    Containers

    • Put your personality in a jar.

For really small collections, such as buttons or matchbooks, store them in decorative containers. Ideas include cigar boxes, ceramic bowls and carved wooden boxes. Display the container in the center of your coffee table, dresser or on top of other focal point furniture. Clear glass jars allow visitors to really see the collection display without having to open the container. Paint them with glass paint, or stick on a decorative label that tells about or just complements what is inside.
