Join the club at the Ron Lee website. This company offers two types of signed, members only figurines. One type has a small production run and each figurine is numbered out of 550 or less. The other collection comes in a number up to 1,500. This site gives you first look at upcoming releases and access to exclusive figurines available only to select others.
Look for the trademark on the bottom of the piece or some identifying mark. Each figurine has a trademark or serial number, depending on the company that made it. The bottom of the figure should also have a signature, which indicates it was part of a limited edition, as well as the number of the piece listed next to or under the signature.
Buy pieces for resale that come with a certificate of authenticity and/or the original box. Collectors of Emmett Kelly Jr. figurines, want the best pieces and are willing to pay more for them. You can still sell those without a certificate or box, but those with both pieces fetch higher prices.
Check the condition of the piece carefully. Figurines are often displayed as part of a larger collection, and even a minor chip or scratch in the paint, hurts the value of the piece. Look for any chips or missing parts, such as a balloon missing from a figurine holding several balloons. Once you've done all your checking, you're ready to sell your figurines.
List the Emmett Kelly Jr. piece in online auctions. Online auctions are your best bet because you have access to more collectors and a wider customer base. Clearly state in your auction when the piece was made, the manufacturer, any damage and the number of the piece. Also, include information on the club and the number of pieces made.
