How to Pack a Zippo Lighter

Zippo lighters have become iconic in the lighter industry. Fans collect them, trade them, go to conventions for them and even design cars to look like them. Packaging Zippos may be necessary if you are sending them via the postal service or a specialty delivery company; packing Zippos may be necessary if you taking it on a plane. The main concern will be lighter fluid leaking from the Zippo during travel, as this will be hazardous to the objects surrounding the Zippo.

Insert your Zippo into a lockable plastic bag about the size of the Zippo lighter. Seal the plastic bag shut. Insert the Zippo lighter into the plastic Zippo case the lighter came in. If you have lost, misplaced or did not receive a Zippo box, then you can use any Zippo lighter-sized box. Insulate the box with lightly dense foam. Close the box.

If shipping the lighter through the postal service or any other shipping service company, you will have to evaporate the lighter fluid from the lighter. Remove the lighter from the metal casing and let it be exposed for up to three days--by then the fuel will have evaporated. Put the packed lighter into an oversized box or padded shipping bag. Print your name, address and email address on a note and insert it inside the package. Address the package. Get your package insured at your local postal office and make sure it is trackable.

If you are traveling with the lighter via airline, it can be included in your carry-on or checked luggage--in both circumstances it can fueled. However, Zippo Torch lighters cannot be in carry-on luggage. If you are carrying a fueled lighter, insert it into a plastic bag before packing it up. If you wish to let the lighter fluid in it evaporate, expose the lighter unit to the air for up to three days and then package it. When putting the Zippo lighter into luggage, store it in such a way that will not have it upside down during transportation.
