How to Keep a Hot Wheels Collection Organized

Since 1968, Hot Wheels die cast cars, mostly 1:64 scale with highly accurate "real-to-life" designs, intricate interior detail work and vibrant paint jobs, have thrilled collectors young and old. Some collectors hold on to only a few favorite models over a lifetime, while others try to collect thousands of them. No matter what type of collection, keeping it well-organized and protected can guarantee easy access to all models, reduced restoration work from damage and less time lost searching for a particular model.

Instructions

    • 1

Take inventory of your collection by either writing your Hot Wheels model types in a list or by utilizing data processing software to create a spreadsheet. Keep in mind that several software providers offer collection software specifically designed to help with organization of large collections.

    • 2

Choose a primary organization category for your Hot Wheels car and trucks. You can organize alphabetically, by production year, type, color or display order. If utilizing software, you can also organize by purchase year or sold to information.

    • 3

Select a method of storing your collection (clear acrylic cases or closed boxes) that takes up the least amount of space, while also keeping the collection from harmful elements such as water, heat and dust.

    • 4

Buy display cases and storage containers through a Hot Wheels' brand dealer, collector's event or at a craft or display case retail store. If storing a large number of models in a closed bin or box, separate models between pieces of sheet foam to protect paint from dings.

    • 5

Label your display cases and storage containers, and keep a physical or virtual collection log outlining the exact location of each of your Hot Wheels within their cases. For example, utilize small, numbered label dots on the underside of each display cube and correspond those numbers in your log with the vehicle type in that spot.
