How to Care for a Zippo Lighter

Zippo lighters are famous for their uniqueness and durability. Since George G. Blaisdell created the very first Zippo in 1933, more than 425 million Zippos have been produced and nearly 45,000 new Zippos are produced every day. The many unique models of Zippos that have come out over the years have inspired many thousands of people around the world to collect the windproof Zippo brand lighters. Well-maintained Zippos will continue to increase in value over time, so it is important to learn how to take care of the Zippo in the best way.

  Change the fluid. Use Zippo lighter fluid to refill the lighter when it runs out. The cotton filling must be saturated with fluid before you put the lighter back together.

  Clean the lighter off. Make sure to remove all lighter fluid from the outside of the lighter after refilling it.

  Fix jams. If the lighter will not light,then it is possible that it is jammed. Insert a piece of wire under the wheel to remove the obstruction.

  Maintain the outside surface. Follow the "care instructions" that come with the lighter, being sure to use only the cleaning methods prescribed to prevent harming the Zippo's physical appearance.
