How to Obtain NFL Media Guides

Media guides are informational booklets provided by teams in the National Football League and other professional sports leagues. They are updated prior to each season and include complete information on the players, coaches, management, and ownership, as well as player and team statistics, the schedule for the upcoming season and details on the team's history. Sportswriters, fantasy-league players and dedicated fans find them useful, and they're not too difficult to obtain.

  Go to your team's official website. Search for "Media Guide," or locate a button on the home page such as "News" or "Media Information" that should provide information about the guide.

  For immediate information, the media guide of most NFL teams can be downloaded from the team website and printed out. You may also be able to download the media guide from the past several seasons.

  Call the team's telephone number, which should be listed on the "Contacts" link, and ask for media relations or public relations. Identify yourself as an interested fan and request a copy of the media guide. Many teams will sell and mail you a copy for a modest charge.

  For collectors seeking older guides, check Amazon.com or ebay.com and search for the guide by year and team. These vintage guides will probably not be available from the team, but sports collector shops and used bookstores are other alternatives.

  Public libraries may be a source of some media guides. Such items are likely to be reference materials, and generally cannot be taken from the library.
