Using Colored Inks
Most fountain pen cartridges come only in colors such as black and dark blue. However, you can buy bottled ink in a rainbow of shades, from pink to green to sepia. By using an ink converter designed for your pen, you can use these inks just as you would a cartridge.
Using the Right Converter
Some fountain pen ink converters snap into the pen, while others must be screwed in. To avoid leaks, be certain to only use a fountain pen ink converter designed for your particular pen.
Filling a Converter
Most ink converters need to be attached to the fountain pen nib before they are filled. To fill the converter, dip the nib into the bottle of ink and draw back on the plunger on the end of the converter.
Cleaning a Converter
To clean a fountain pen ink converter, insert the nib into a glass of clean water and draw back on the plunger as if filling it with ink. Lower the plunger to expel the water, and repeat until the converter is clean.
Warning
To avoid damaging your pen, only fill your ink converter with ink formulated for fountain pens.
