How to Store Rubber Dolls

Although highly collectible, rubber dolls can pose challenges when it comes to proper care and storage. Methods that may be appropriate for other materials are often not the ideal way to prepare rubber dolls for storage or to pack them for a move.

Things You'll Need

  • Acid-free paper
  • Unbleached, dye-free muslin fabric (also known as natural muslin)
  • Unbleached, dye-free cotton fabric (also known as natural cotton)
  • Storage trunk (metal or wood)
  • Temperature-controlled, dim storage space

Instructions

    • 1

Line the trunk with natural cotton fabric.

    • 2

Remove the clothing from each doll. Stuff larger pieces of clothing with rolled or balled acid-free paper so that they hold their shape. Wrap each piece of clothing in a piece of acid-free paper.

    • 3

Lay the clothing along the bottom of the trunk and cover it with a layer of acid-free paper.

    • 4

Wrap each doll in natural muslin and lay it on top of the paper in the trunk. Use folded pieces of acid-free paper to prevent dolls from touching each other.

    • 5

Spread a final layer of acid-free paper over the dolls, followed by a layer of natural cotton. Close the trunk securely.

    • 6

Store the trunk in a cool, temperature-controlled room away from light, bugs and rodents.
