DIY CD Cases

You can protect your music and data CDs from scratches and cracks without spending a dime by making your own CD cases using a simple piece of paper. Get creative with paper styles to design the cases and then decorate them using scrapbook supplies, or your computer and printer.
  1. Supplies Needed

    • The only materials you need to make your own CD cases are sheets of regular, letter-sized paper and a CD.

There also are options for getting creative with your CD cases. Use decorative patterned paper, construction paper or solid colored card stock instead of plain white paper. Design a cover for the CD case using your computer and a graphic design program, or use scrapbook supplies.

    Folding the Paper

    • Lay a sheet of letter-sized paper flat on a hard work surface and place the CD in the center near the top of the paper. Fold the sides of the paper in toward the center of the CD and then pull the disc out of the folds and place it on top at the center of the paper. Fold the bottom of the paper up over the disc and then place the CD back inside the folds. Fold the top of the paper down over the bottom. Use repositionable tape or a sticker to close the disc case. You also can fold the corners of the top in and then slide the top inside the bottom to close the case.

    Labeling the Cases

    • Create your own sticky labels containing the disc information using your computer by printing the label information onto large mailing labels. You also can print the label directly onto the center of the paper being used to create the CD case before it is folded. Rubber alphabet stamps or letter stickers also can be used to add a handmade touch.
