History
Three brothers, Juan, José and Vicente Lladró, began making small porcelain sculptures near their home in Almàssera, Spain. Their work quickly became popular with collectors, and they built the City of Porcelain in 1969 to produce their products in large numbers.
Markings
Modern Lladro porcelain bears a dark blue mark in the shape of a tulip above the company's name. Works produced during the 1960s typically have the name simply carved into the bottom.
Subjects
Lladro porcelain figurines often depict human beings alone or in groups. The company also produces lines of international, mythological, romantic, religious and fantasy pieces.
Cost
Some Llardo figurines cost $200 to $500, but more ornate pieces cost between $1,000 and $15,000.
Museum
The Museo Lladro is located inside of the City of Porcelain and houses a collection of vintage and modern Lladro porcelain figurines.
