Instructions
Choose a location to use your White Metal Detector. Beaches, old mining sites and the areas surrounding lakes and rivers are popular locations for metal detection.
Turn on your metal detector. From the main menu, select the "Programs" button in the upper left-hand corner. Select which program you would like to use based on the material you're hoping to find.
Leave the trigger centered to bring up the Active Search screen. From this screen, you will see a Visual Display Indicator number in the top left-hand corner, the estimated depth of the of the object in the upper right-hand corner and an icon for the likely target next to that (which will be something like a cartoon ring or coin, depending on the target).
Begin searching with the metal detector while the Active Search screen is up. Keep the metal detector several inches off of the ground, and note which areas you have covered so far, so as not to sweep the same area twice. When you pass over a metal object, the machine will beep and the active display screen will reflect the information of the buried object.
Check the VDI number and the icon for likely target on the screen. If the object appears desirable, squeeze the trigger to bring up the Active Pinpoint screen. This will bring up a more accurate depth rating, which will appear as a large number in the top left-hand corner of the screen.
Mark the spot indicated by your metal detector and dig to the depth stated on the Active Pinpoint screen. For smaller objects, such as rings and coins, use the sifter to separate metal objects from sand, dirt or silt.
