How to Refill Mont Blanc Fountain Pens With a Converter

Montblanc (not Mont Blanc) fountain pens are exquisitely crafted instruments, both sturdy and reliable. With proper use and care, a Montblanc fountain pen will last a lifetime and give you a lot of pleasure when you write with it. Part of your routine maintenance duties will be to refill the ink when it runs low. Refilling with bottled ink and Montblanc's piston converter also provides a more economic and environmentally friendly solution than using plastic or polycarbon ink cartridges. This refilling task is a simple process.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare for the refill. Uncap the fountain pen, unscrew the barrel from the nib section, and uncap the ink bottle on a flat, level surface. The piston converter is attached to the nib section of the pen.

    • 2

While holding the portion of the piston converter nearest to the nib with one hand, dip the nib into the ink, and use your other hand to twist the top of the converter as far as it will go in a counter-clockwise direction. This will completely flush the converter reservoir.

    • 3

Twist the top of the converter as far as it will go in a clockwise direction. This will draw ink from the bottle into the converter reservoir.

Write a few words on a piece of scratch paper to confirm that the ink flows properly from the nib.

Recap the ink bottle, and store it upright at room temperature in a dry place.
