How to Change Bezels

The bezel is the ring that surrounds the face of a watch. The face is the portion of the watch that contains the hands and numbers. The bezel is separate from the crystal that covers the face. Bezels are usually made of gold, silver, or stainless steel. Many watches offer replaceable bezels. Bezels can change the look of a watch. To change the bezel, the old one must be removed without breaking it off, or losing any of the pieces inside the watch.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert pieces of masking tape between the bezel and the case, or body, of the watch. This will protect these two parts from being scratched by the knife blade. The masking tape will come free when the bezel is removed.

    • 2

Place the knife blade on top of the masking tape and push it under the bezel. Wriggle the blade slowly until the bezel is released.

    • 3

Place the spring into the new bezel in the same position as in the old. Line up the new bezel on top of the watch face. The spring should be over its former position on the watch face.

    • 4

Press down on the bezel until you feel it snap into place. The bezel is not attached properly if it appears lopsided on the watch face. Remove if necessary, and press down again.
