How to Identify Silverware Patterns

Unfortunately, it's a snap to lose or ruin silverware. Many of us lose forks and spoons by carelessly throwing them away along with paper plates, and we've all ruined silverware by grinding it in the garbage disposal by mistake. The only good news is that it's quite easy to identify your silverware pattern and replace the pieces you've damaged or lost.

Instructions

  1. Identifying Silverware Patterns

    • 1

Compare your set to photos on silverware websites such as The Silver Queen. The patterns are arranged by manufacturer or by description. For example, you can select plain, floral or beaded. You can often find discontinued as well as current patterns on these sites.

    • 2

Mail or e-mail a photograph of your pattern to a silverware replacement company such as Replacements.com. Include a sentence or two describing the set. These businesses employ staff to help you make your identification.

    • 3

Bring a piece of your silverware to the nearest department store such as Macy's as it is sometimes nice to talk to a real person instead of dealing online. Housewares sales staff can search silverware catalogs to help identify your pattern. If that's not successful, they can suggest another pattern similar enough to work as a replacement piece.
