Making a Box Display Case for NASCAR Memorabilia
Select a type of wood you would like to work with, such as oak, cherry or maple.
Measure how big you want the display case to be in height, width and depth as well as the number of shelves you want.
Cut the wood planks to the specific lengths desired.
Nail one side board to the top and base of the display case.
Measure out the distance you want between shelves and nail these boards onto the one side as well.
Nail the other sideboard into the top, base and shelves of the display case. Make sure all pieces are level.
Cut the plywood to meet the length and width of the box you just created.
Nail the plywood to the back of the box to add support.
If you choose, attach two pieces of grooved edging to the top and the base with wood glue on the open side of the box in order to slide in a piece of Plexiglass and protect the items on display.
Apply a stain to the wood to protect its surface.
A Platform Case
Cut a piece of wood that will be big enough to accommodate a model NASCAR stock car. A board cut to 1 foot by 6 to 8 inches should be fine.
Bevel the edges of the board to create an elegant edge along the side of the wood. (This step is optional.)
Stain the wood to give it the type of finish you want. Maybe you want the wood to have an antique appearance or you want it to appear dark. Let the wood dry. (This step is also optional.)
Assemble the Plexiglass case by first measuring the length and width of the platform you have created.
Cut the Plexiglass to fit the platform's measurements and include the height you determine will be best for the case. You will need five pieces. You can also cut the Plexiglass 2 inches short to put 1 inch of platform around the cube.
Use an adhesive to stick the sides of the cube together including a top piece. Let it dry overnight.
Place the model car onto the platform and set the Plexiglass cube over it. If you choose to do so, you can also use an adhesive to stick the Plexiglass to the wood.
