How to Build a Doll Storage Box

If your daughter owns a doll then you know how many accessories and clothes it can come with. To keep your child's doll organized, it is a good idea to build a doll storage box to contain both the doll and its many accessories. If you never have constructed anything before, building a doll storage box may seem intimidating, but even a novice can build a doll storage box if you follow these easy steps.

  • 2 pieces of wood, 2 feet by 2 feet., 1/4-inch thick

Put the pieces together. Place a side piece of wood (a long piece) with an end piece of wood (a short piece), and line them up so that the edge of the side piece fits inside the end piece. Nail them together along the edges, using at least three nails. Next, line up the other side to the same end piece in the same manner that you did for the first set. Nail together in the same fashion. Then, place the other end piece on top of the side edges, and nail it on top of the side piece along the edge, making sure that you are using at least three nails per edge. Finally, place the bottom piece (a long piece) on top of the box you have created, line it up to make sure that it is laying on top of the edges, and nail it into place.

Sand your doll storage box thoroughly. Using sandpaper, sand down the edges and surfaces of your box to make sure that there are no rough or jagged places. Since this box is used by children for their dolls, you want to make sure that little hands will not get splinters when playing with it. Use small, circular motions and take your time. The more you sand and smooth the wood, the nicer the doll storage box will be.

Apply wood glue to the cracks. When you apply wood glue to the cracks, it seals in the creases and prevents the wood from pulling away from the nails. Squirt a line of wood glue into the crease where you nailed the wood together, and use your finger to wipe away any excess glue. Do this for all of the open creases in your box. Make sure that glue is completely dry before you paint your doll storage box.

Paint your doll storage box. You should use a paint that is meant for wood, which can be found at any hardware store. Try to choose colors that are suitable for a girls room, such as pastel or light colors. You can be creative when you paint, but if you are having trouble deciding how to paint your doll storage box, simply paint it a solid color and add small flowers at the corners. This will complement any bedroom decor.
