How to Build a Barbie Display Case

Barbie is an icon to most American little girls, as well as a collector's item that is worth preserving. To keep such a collectible in good condition, it is essential to store it in a safe place. But what fun is a collection if you can't show it off? Building each Barbie her own display case will keep your collection in great shape while still allowing you to show it off.

  • Wooden board
  • Sandpaper
  • Wood stain
  • Plexiglas
  • Emery cloth
  • Silicon sealant
  • Tape measure
  • Router
  • Jigsaw
  • Clamp

Instructions

    • 1

      Set up your Barbie in the position in which you would like to display it in the case.

      Measure the height, width and depth of your Barbie in this position.

      Add a couple of inches to each of the measurements from the previous step.

      Have your Plexiglas cut at a hardware store so you have one piece that is cut to the new depth and width, two pieces that are the new height and depth and two pieces that are the new height and width.

      Use an emery cloth to smooth the edges of your Plexiglas.

      Build the clear Plexiglas top to your display case by putting all of the Plexiglas pieces together. The piece cut to the width and depth with be the top of your case, while the rest will be the sides and front. Connect the pieces with silicon sealant along the seams. Hold the pieces in place with a clamp while they dry, placing a soft cloth between the Plexiglas and the clamp so the Plexiglas doesn't get scratched.

      Cut your board so that it is 1 inch wider on all sides that the outside of the Plexiglas top. You can do this by tracing the outside of the Plexiglas case onto the board, then measuring 1 inch out from these lines to draw the lines to be cut with your jigsaw.

      Along the outline of the Plexiglas that you traced in the previous step, use your router to cut a groove that is just big enough to accommodate the thickness of the Plexiglas you chose for your case.

      Sand and stain your board.

      Place your Barbie on the wooden bottom of your display case, then lower the Plexiglas top over it and into the groove your routed out for it.
