How to Make a Knife Display

Some people collect marbles, baseball cards or stamps. Collecting knives is a whole different kind of hobby. The options for knife collecting are many. Al Mar knives are quite desirable for most collectors; vintage ones can be worth a substantial sum. Kershaw knives are also desirable--except those with plastic or rubber handles. Gerber fixed blades, Buck and Schrade knives are also wanted by most avid knife collectors. Many collectors want to create a place where they can display and show off their knives. Here's how.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy a display case with a glass protection case and a secure lock.

    • 2

Separate your knives into different categories, such as size, color or blade type. Some collectors specifically look for a name brand in a knife. Some collections are best divided into two or three major name brands. Some should be divided by the colors of the base. It's all up to you.

    • 3

Set up the display case in a safe place, away from children. If you have a lot of guests over that you don't know that well, avoid keeping the display where it can be observed.

    • 4

Lay out the knives according to how you separated them in Step 2. You can start with your favorites in the center. Alternately, you can place your favorite knives on one side and go down from there.

    • 5

Place useful items near your display, such as a knife sharpener, for an authentic look.

    • 6

Dust and clean the display regularly for optimal viewing.
