How to Catalog a Home Library With GuruLib

Keeping track of movies, books and music you own or have used in the past has always been a practice that collectors did primarily by hand. Having a list helps you keep organized and comes in handy if needed for insurance due to loss, theft or damage. Gurulib makes keeping a catalog of your media library fast and you can even share it with your friends.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign up for a Gurulib account and log in. Explore the site and look at what others have done in creating their library. Get familiar with the basic look and feel of the site.

    • 2

Click "Add" in the shelf area to begin a new shelf, include a name such as "Movies" or "Books." Create shelves based on your needs, for instance use one shelf to track movies you have watched and another to track movies you own. Include music and books in the same fashion.

    • 3

Populate your lists by clicking "Add Items" and "ISBN/UPC" and entering the entire UPC code from the media you wish to add. UPC codes are for games, music, movies and software while ISBN numbers are for books. Both codes are really just the bar codes on the package that a clerk scans in during the checkout process at the store.

    • 4

Verify the item Gurulib added to your catalog is the correct one. Delete mismatched items by selecting "Delete" and confirm your choice.

    • 5

Add media with missing or unrecognized codes by clicking "Search Titles" and enter a keyword that fits the item. Select the matching item from the list and click "Save."

    • 6

Continue adding titles until the entire collection is loaded. Maintain the catalog items when you bring them home, you can even create a wish list shelf to share with you friends.
