How to Replace the Flint in a Zippo BLU Lighter

Zippo is one of the oldest names in the lighter business. While they are dependable, sometimes it is necessary to perform general maintenance and repair on the lighter. Some issues may require the lighter to be sent to the company, but replacing the flint is something you can do on your own.

Things You'll Need

  • Small eyeglass screwdriver
  • Zippo flint

Instructions

    • 1

Flip open the lid of lighter. Grasp the flint wheel and pull straight up.

    • 2

Turn the flint wheel cartridge upside down. Use a small screwdriver to remove the screw at the bottom of cartridge and extract the flint spring from the flint wheel. Hold the flint spring tightly in a cupped hand to avoid loosing the wheel, spring or screw. Slowly pull the spring away from the flint wheel.

    • 3

Remove the old flint from the opposite end of the spring and replace it with a new flint. Zippo brand flints are recommended for Zippo BLU lighters.

    • 4

Insert the spring back into flint wheel casing.

    • 5

Replace the screw in the bottom of the flint wheel cartridge and tighten it with a screwdriver.

    • 6

Return the flint wheel cartridge to the lighter. Locate the notched side of the cartridge and face the notch toward the burner. Press into place.
