How to Collect Surfboards

Travel beach towns for easy purchase of a variety of styles of surfboards. Many surf shops and restoration centers will have surfboards for sale, from brand new to restored vintage boards. Surf board rental centers will often have old boards that need restoration, which they prefer to sell than restore. In specialty surf shops and restoration centers your are likely to find everything from child sized boards to massive long boards to add to your collection.

Place wanted ads on the bulletin boards in every surf shop you visit. All or at least most surf shops offer a space where surfers can place wanted or for sale ads for surf equipment, including surfboards. Not only may you find boards for purchase on these bulletins, you can also post a bulletin for the exact surfboard you are wanting to add to your collection.

Post an online wanted add on your local Craigslist, a common resource for people looking to buy and sell collector's items, including surfboards (see Resources below). Keep an eye on the "For Sale" listings for the occasional surfboard as well. You should look at other Craiglist city pages in towns located in common surf centers as well, as you are more likely to find "For Sale" ads in these towns. Surf boards are difficult to ship, so search towns where you are willing to travel to both view and purchase the board.

Add boards to your collection that need restoration work. If you are planning to use the boards in your collection, most surfboards can be fully restored. If you are not planning on using your surfboards, even a cracked or damaged board can make a great addition to your collection.

Increase your options by collecting not only full-sized surfboards, but also other small surfboard items. You can buy many "knick-knack" items shaped as or featuring surfboards, such as coasters, keychains, photos, clocks and T-shirts, that make a great addition to your decorative surfboard display.
