Things You'll Need
Instructions
Purchase a railroad memorabilia collector's price guide, such as "Railroadiana: A Collectors Guide to Railroad Memorabilia," which is available at local bookstores or online at places such as Amazon.
Decide if you are going to collect railroad memorabilia in general, or if you are going to limit your collections based on certain factors such as type of item, railroad or area of the country.
Visit local antique and collectible shops to see if they have any railroad memorabilia that you would like to add to your collection. Make sure to tell the storeowner that you are a collector of railroad memorabilia so that they can let you know if they find anything they think might interest you.
Browse online auction sites to find a piece of railroad memorabilia that you'd like to bid on.
Attend local auctions. You might find an antique memorabilia lot up for bid.
Find a hidden treasure among the items for sale at flea markets, thrift shops and garage sales.
Join a railroad memorabilia collectors club, such as The Railroadiana Collectors Association. (See link in Resources).
