How to create a patch bag to celebrate your travels
When you arrive at your next destination, and are scanning through the gift shops, look for a durable cloth bag with a zipper that doesn't have much (or any) decoration on it. The more open space, the more room for patches.
Look around this touristy place that you are visiting and get an idea of what kind of commemorative patches are available. You might not want to buy the first one you see. But don't forget where it is, either. Some towns don't have a lot of personalized patches available.
Pick out a patch that illustrates the place you have been. Look for something that is really distinctive specifically to the place you are at. If in Arizona, for example, look for a saguaro. If in Hawaii, maybe one of those gorgeous flowers. Think icons of an area.
Repeat. Every time you go to a new place, look for a patch. It can become a fun game for parents to play with kids, and it takes the pressure off of the family to get a special (and expensive gift) wherever ones goes.
